Stewardship

Responsible Land Management

Stewardship is the careful and responsible management of land and water.

Stewardship falls into two categories at Legacy:

The first is promoting stewardship activities that everyone can do.

The second is the stewardship of the conservation properties that Legacy is directly involved.

Stewardship for All

Through our Conservation Community program, Legacy offers events and learning opportunities through workshops, webinars, and classrooms. To date we have led nature walks, hosted riparian health and native plant tours, delivered pollinator presentations to middle school science classes and held a workshop to build bluebird nest boxes.

In the future we plan to cover topics like pollinator gardening, bee boxes, bat houses, weed management, and conservation fencing. By joining our Friends of Legacy, you can find out about upcoming opportunities.

Stewardship by Legacy

When Legacy partners with a landowner, we are promising to uphold their conservation goals and values forever. Our monitoring program ensures every conservation easement is visited annually and the landowners’ conservation vision is being achieved. After each visit we meet to review the monitoring report, talk about any concerns such as an invasive species, and develop plans to successfully address them.

Sometimes these plans lead to opportunities for volunteers to come to the properties to help. Our annual Buttercup Blitz on Owl Ridge conservation easement is an example of how we can all work together to tackle a conservation concern.
