Preserving a Legacy
The Miller family purchased the CE lands in 1975. The property spans both sides of a deep coulee with Carstairs Creek running along the bottom. The natural grasslands and shrubs transition into mixed forest on the steep southern slope, where springs and seeps flow year-round. This mixture of habitats contributes to an essential wildlife corridor, making the property a valuable ecological asset.
Linda and her family have documented a diverse array of wildlife on the land. A pair of bald eagles frequently use the coulee and sometimes even winter there. Other bird species include owls, doves, partridges, a variety of songbirds and waterfowl. Mammals such as coyotes, foxes, deer and moose also call this land home.
When Linda and her adult children learned about conservation easements they knew that creating a legacy in the memory of a husband and father, Jeremy Miller, to keep their land in it natural state was a fitting tribute.
